An interesting video by Salman Khan who talks about how and why he created the Khan Academy. Salman Khan placed a few videos on YouTube showing how to work out math equations and pretty soon they grew really popular, not only for students but also teachers using his video demonstrations in their classrooms.
The Khan Academy is now a popular, not for profit, carefully structured series of educational videos offering complete curricula in math and now also various other subjects.
Salman Khan shows the power of good interactive videos and he asks teachers to consider using videos as homework for students where they can rewind, review work at their own pace. This would leave classroom time for practicing math questions or other tasks together.
This is the direction I can see education in general going toward in the near future. With download speeds increasing dramatically and thus high quality video plus audio becoming available, it makes sense to me that many students will work better at their own pace on some tasks and then come together to discuss and recieve help when needed.
